I have a beef with the Port Mann Bridge, the toll to be precise. I live East of the Fraser and occassionally take the PM bridge, more oftenPatullo for the reason its a bit quicker the times I travel. I will of course be stuck with the toll when the new bridge opens. If you believe user pay, thats good...then explain to me why everyone who will be travelling on the hwy east of and west of the bridge without actually going over will not pay one dime for all the widening, improved off ramps and on ramps leading up to both sides of the bridge?

Shouldn't "they" pay their fair share of a toll? Say $1 if you travel from the Grandview on ramp to anywhere just west of the bridge? a $1 coming from say, the Wack to anywhere east of the bridge or do you think the cost of all that extra infrastructure should be paid by only the people crossing the bridge?

I wrote to Blair Lekstrom, asking for a breadown of the cost of the bridge and a seperate breakdown of the cost of the extra infrastucture. He replied but basically told to usr my motorcyle to cross the bridge as the toll was less, no breakdown on costs.

If you still believe it should be user pay, why should I, who will never in 10 lifetimes use the Evergreen line pay for that project. The pay school tax when I have no kids thing doesn't work, that just reinforces my idea.

This board is full of folks from all over the world, we have all been in cities where there are tolls everywhere. I happen to think thats fair, we should all pay. I should pay for the Evergreen line, I should pay for the Sea to Sky Hwy. We need to begin acting like a world class city we claim we are and collectively pay for everything. Any thoughts on this?

I've identified you as a Libertarian.

And you have kids, they're just not in school anymore, but they've been through the system. Tongue

Why should I pay for the library I buy my own books, why should I pay for the new fighter jets I don't condone war, why should I pay for medicare I never get sick, why should I pay for jails I'm not going there... how far do we want to take this?

Grin

BTW we have a Lower Mainland Roads Project thread.
