Holy crap you should see it snow here!  It's going to be/get really interesting.  Visibility is close to zero.  Is it ever coming down.  At least it's dry and fluffy powder.

Whitecourt - Edson - Fox Creek - Swan Hills
7:40 PM MST Saturday 03 December 2011
Snowfall warning for
Whitecourt - Edson - Fox Creek - Swan Hills issued

10 cm of snowfall over southern sections expected by Sunday morning.

A heavy band of snowfall has formed along the foothills of Central and Southern Alberta behind a broad low pressure system lying over Southern Alberta and Southern Saskatchewan. Southern sections of the Edson region can expected about 10 cm of snow by early Sunday morning before snow tapers off.

Now they're saying we've gotten 20 cm already and can expect 30 cm by morning.
From Environment Canada.
The town of Edson has received about 20 cm of snow so far. Southern sections of the Whitecourt-Edson region can expect about 30 cm of snow by early Sunday morning before snow tapers off.  Boy they sure forecast that right.  Semis are just pulled over and parked.

"It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!"  Our big pines in the yard are just loaded with snow.

I'm blaming all this on stovetop and Dkaz!  Wonder what I'll be doing tomorrow?  Huh

I remember once when I was working, changing a wheel on an airplane in Resolute Bay at minus 50, cold enough to freeze your nads off let me tell you! It was regularly-30 in Edmonton and points East. But I was young a stupid and thought it was fun. I have also worked at +45c in India, I think I prefer the cold.

You know you're having fun when the metal breaks from the cold.

I remember meeting a new hire in Edmonton, many many years ago. He left Singapor and it was +41. He arrived in the Chuck and it was -32!! He had silk pants, silk shirt, he thought he was on the moon.

zoomer, are you in Edson?

Yes, and I shovelled and moved snow for 4.5 hours and there's still more to move.  We got the whole 30 cm., I think!  It was just hit an area here in Alberta.  People were spinning and getting stuck all over today because it's loose dry and not packing down.  I am so tired.  I had a soak in the jet tub after I finished and now for a beer.

Coming into central Alberta in the dead of winter would be a shock to anyone not familiar with the weather.  Just like us going into 90F+ and high humidity like in Rio de Janeiro for Carnival.  It damn near floored me coming from -30C in Montreal.  You should have heard the gasps when the air system in the DC10 was turned off at the ramp.

I'm originally from Saskatoon (very happily living in Victoria now).  I don't miss, or forget, the winter weather at all.  I remember the winter before I moved out here there was a 3 week period where the windchill was causing temperatures in the -50 to -60 range.  My car was plugged in but I couldn't bring myself to start it during that period because I was afraid I would break something.

If I manage to go back to my parent's place in Saskatoon during Christmas, I'm usually huddled by the fireplace, drinking scotch and cursing my existence.  I don't go back often... I prefer to do family meet-ups someplace warm.

We used to drive to Winnipeg from Edson on the Yellowhead for Christmas with the wife's family and overnight mid-way in Saskatoon.  I really miss the snow blowing across the road so that you can't see the road, with the shocks and tires all frozen, and having to run a grill cover to keep the temperature up.  I'd imagine Victoria is a treat.

I'm looking forward to the temperature shock on December 24 when I get off the plane in Puerto Vallarta.

Try this, +7C at 7:00 am MST, then came light rain and it is now 0C at 9:00 am MST, with wind gusts to 60 km/h and going down to -5C this afternoon.
