So this is my problem...
So my work right now is going thru its slow times at the moment... I'm a full time worker but there cutting some or our hours right now. i'm guaranteed 2 shifts a week right now and its a union place... I approached my manager asking if he was able to give me the whole week off so i can apply for EI and he said no cause its a fraud or something like that and that they can't get rid of the 2 shifts that I'm guaranteed so i can apply EI. Is this true? i'm not too familiar with the EI system... all i know is that i need at least 7 days of no work in order to get my ROE. And i heard that there is something called shortage of work EI that EI will pay up to 60% of my wage and i'm allowed to work at the same time, so if i get no shifts EI helps me out and if I end up getting my hours back i get nothing from EI. IF u guys know more then what i do please give me your inputs thx. RIght now its job hunting too

The website stipulates if you lose your job completely to no fault of your own ie. due to shortage of work. Getting cut hours will not get you EI unfortunately.
People on maternity/parental leave can make up to $75 a week without reducing what they get from EI. I don't know if this applies to people on regular EI.

Contact Service Canada for guidance regarding shortage of work EI. This is not something you really want to get conflicting advice about.

Ditto.
Reminds me I have to call CRA. They were so quick to reassess my tax refund to a balance owing of $400 but have been SLOOOOOOOW when I sent them supporting documents proving I don't owe them $400.

Regulation 19(3) defines the ROE reporting requirements for employers. It states that the employee’s copy of an ROE shall be delivered by an employer no later than five days after the first day of the interruption of earnings or the day on which the employer becomes aware of the interruption of earnings, whichever is later. You shouldn't have to wait no more than five days.

Am I eligible for EI regular benefits?
You may be entitled to receive EI regular benefits if you:
have paid premiums into the EI Account; lost your employment through no fault of your own; have been without work and without pay for at least seven consecutive days in the last 52 weeks; have worked for the required number of insurable hours in the last 52 weeks or since the start of your last EI claim, whichever is shorter; are ready, willing, and capable of working each day; and are actively looking for work (you must keep a written record of employers you contact, including when you contacted them). You may not be entitled to receive EI regular benefits if you:
voluntarily left your employment without just cause; were dismissed for misconduct; or are unemployed because you are directly participating in a labour dispute (strike, lockout, or other type of dispute).

Does your employer allow shift trade/giveaway? If so you can be without work for 7 days.
