Anyone own one and what's the word, good or bad, about them?  Or is the Pro a better choice?

I've been considering one... my Macbook is now 5+ years old. The only thing that bothers me is no optical drive (CD/DVD). As far as the flash memory is concerned, apparently it's REALLY easy to upgrade it, you can actually buy a 1 TB thumb drive already.

That said, other than a couple small cracks in the casing of my MacBook, the thing still runs like it's new. I'll probably keep it until it dies. The new MacBook's are awesome, very light, very small and have an aluminum case that will probably last forever (unlike my plastic book). Depends on what you want. The new MacBooks aren't that much bigger than the Air.

In terms of performance if you're looking at the base 13'' model, the Air is a bit weaker. I decided to go with the air, because of it's sleek unibody and higher res screen (1440x900) the same that you would be getting on a 15'' macbook pro.

Across the line, the 2nd gen intel i5/i7 processors really do deliver performance when you need it. I run my Lightroom, Photoshop and InDesign daily while multitasking without any problems. Hope my suggestion helps!  Smiley

I have a macbook air 13" base model and loving it. It's good for school, or daily tasks, and definitely bring it around. If you need to store stuff in it, definitely go for a macbook pro Smiley

Ya, I don't store much on my MacBook, everything goes on the external HD.

The wife is drooling for a 13 inch Macbook Air, I think more for the looks, but I'm favouring the 15 inch Pro.  The weight difference is negligible and the Pro has more storage as noted.  We have an old iBook G4 that's still working and still kicking around the house as well as two Mac minis w/ monitors and the wife's lenovo Thinkpad.
I'm certainly seeing a lot of the Macbook Pros around here being used by oil and gas well operators/contractors and they're liking them.  I don't see many Macbook Airs except in the Apple store.
I've had very good service from Apple products over the years at home and in my office.
This is going to be mainly my laptop.  What would you buy and remember I'm not going to be packing it around for long periods of time or trying to impress others with its looks?  We'll take it with us on trips for email checking and surfing where there's wifi.

But the iBook G4 was discontinued in spring of 2006... I had one though and it was great. The 12" was a great portable size. The MacBook Air to me is like the new generation iBook G4.

My wife has the 13" model and she loves it. It's her first Mac. If you don't need high end performance to do your tasks, it's enough for anyone.  It is very light and I wish they made a 15" or 17" model to upgrade from my 17" Macbook Pro.

GF has a pro and its pretty awesome.  I think the air is great if you plan on lugging it around a lot but if you're not worried about the width/weight I'd def recommend the pro's they're really solid machines.

I love the look of the 13" Air as well and was considering it as a present to myself, but by sheer luck won a 13" Pro at my office Xmas party (from a $20 raffle ticket) this year and loving it so far.  My first Mac!

If you're not going to be packing the thing all over the place I'd go with the 15" pro. Beautiful machine, fast & won't be obsolete in 2 years like most laptops.

Question:  If you buy an Apple computer in the States when you're in Arizona is there duty on it coming into Canada after 10 days?  Like say a Macbook Pro.

Your official personal limit after 7 days is $750, but they may let you through. A lot of this is up to the discretion of the border guard letting you through.

I thought computers didn't incur any duty from somewhere or another in my memory.  I could be wrong.

Found this on the web:
The most popular goods often invoke the most questions.

What’s the duty rate for computers, laptops, netbooks, printers (ink-jet printers), printer parts, scanners, photocopiers, hard-disks, monitors, modems, routers, switches?  And what about other gadgets such as cell phones, battery chargers, power supplies and controllers, video games, Digital cameras, TV cameras and video recorders?

The good news is that they are all free from duty.

I will maybe have to pay GST but we have no sales tax.  I think I'm buying a computer!!!
