Whenever I try the "show unread posts", I get the following response:

"No unread topics found since your last visit. Click here to try all unread topics. "

This is sort of a nuisance, since you tend to get the whole world in response to "try all unread topics"

Any suggestions?

Hmm it works for me too.  John, try clearing the cache/cookies and delete the temp Internet files.  Then try again, and make sure there ARE unread topics Wink

I just have my shortcut set to
http://www.bcmazda3.com/forum/index.php?action=unread;all

Which is the "show all new posts" link.  Then just mark everything as read once... after that you'll only get the new stuff.

Okay, here's a related problem.  I hit the show unread posts link, and get the first page of unread posts.  I read them by right-clicking on the post and viewing in a new tab.  Then when i'm finished with the thread I close that tab and i'm back to the list, and I don't have to wait for the list to reload each time.

The problem is, if there's more than one page of new posts when I get here, after i've read the first page and click on the [2] to go to the second page, I frequently get dumped at a new page [1] with only one page (or less) of new posts.  So i'm losing some of the new post tags before I get to them.

My workaround is to load page [1], then immediately load page [2] in a new tab, and then read from page [2] back.  This is a nuisance, though.  Is there a way I can change the timeout so it doesn't lose the new posts?

You don't have to open the second page in a new tab.  Just refresh/reload that page, the list should be automatically updated with new unread posts (if there's any), even if you just closed the window containing the same topic.

You don't have to open the second page in a new tab.  Just refresh/reload that page, the list should be automatically updated with new unread posts (if there's any), even if you just closed the window containing the same topic.

I understand, but that's not the problem.  The problem is that when I first go to look at "new posts", I get a page that says there's two pages of threads with new posts.  If I stay on page 1, and read through and reply to some of the posts, by the time I get to clicking on page 2, page 2 is empty or non-existent.  So I never know if i've missed some posts because the system timed out.

I've had the system go from a full page of new posts to zero new posts when I refresh the page, btw, and that's without clicking on "Mark as read" in between.  There's some timer somewhere that says "you haven't reloaded this page in 30 (or 60, 0r 120, whatever) seconds, so all of these are now 'old' and the next reload will be new posts since the timeout".

That's because you're looking at "unread posts since my last visit"  Try looking at "all unread posts".  There's no timeout on that one... if you haven't seen it, it's new.

Can we replace the "unread posts since last visit" link with a link to "all unread posts"?  Where else other than your link in this thread can I find a link that says "all unread posts"?

If you hit the "show unread posts since my last visit" and there aren't any... it gives a link to view "all" unread posts instead.  That's where I first found it... just made it my bookmark for this site rather than the front page.

Grr.  I hate hidden bookmarks like that.  That should be the default link, or at the very least it should be beside the other link.
