The new Mclaren MP4-27. So far, best looking f1 car of the season due to FIA rule changes on the height of the front end. Second picture is what ferrari have come up with - see what i mean?

Force India and Caterham have the same stepped nose, has to do with new FIA regulations for the mounting points for the front suspension. I'm curious how McLaren thinks their car is legal, most other teams have had to go with a pullrod suspension to make the suspension fit... the McLaren is still using pushrods. Also, the FIA is concerned that McLaren hid their exhausts when they displayed the car, Charlie Whiting is going to be on hand at the first test to have a personal look at the new cars to see if anyone is "pushing" the boundaries of the rule book.

from what I have read, the nose is legal. What they did was lower the entire thing to reduce the need for that step. If you look at the pic above, you can see that is is indeed closer to the bottom. This is the FIA rule:

"the height of the chassis immediately ahead of the cockpit can still be up to 625mm above the reference plane (PR), but then in the space of 150mm it must fall to 550mm".

So the ahead of the cockpit "can still be up to 625mm". They dropped that section to reduce the amount they had to meet at 550mm marker.

Edit: I made a new thread on F1 to keep from jacking this thread lol.

I figure the new season is about to get going so why not have a place to discuss if you're interested.

So basically McLaren just sloped the nose more than Ferrari & Force India. Definitely a much more elegant solution... kind of like this thread. Gawd knows Kevin hates it when we fill the hot cars thread with race cars!

haha i just dont want to get into a big discussion over there lol.

Ya, so they dropped the whole front nose so that it met the requirements. I am anxious as hell to see what RB does. With that whole step that most cars are doing, i have to assume it will slow them down...

Alpinewhite6 maybe ask the mods to move those pictures and posts to this thread if they can.

It would probably be asking a little much for me to ask to win the Lotto 6/49 7 million tonight though eh?   Grin

Wonder what that hump will do to airflow?  It would be interesting to see the smoke patterns in a wind tunnel.

i can only assume it gives them more down force but it will without doubt effect speed. After mclaren revealed theirs, im sure all the other teams are like "how did we miss that!"

I can't see Newey doing something like that. The man is an aerodynamic genius.

Of course the year I decide to go watch a live race the cars have to look stupid.

I'm not a fan of the blown diffuser ban.  I wasn't crazy about the "hot blown" method, but I didn't see anything wrong with the "cold blown" version.

Here's a sport who is changing the engines to 1.6L turbo versions to become more "green", but they ban something that uses exhaust gases to increase aerodynamic efficiency (Cold-Blown version that is).  I wish I could smack Jean Todt.

And that damned Kubica just can't catch a break!  Since he's still out I guess I'll have to bring a Schumi banner!

are you going to montreal?

Oh and Reb bull unveiled the RB8 this morning...they too have been tricked into the stepped nose design but have actually made a vent out of it. Not sure where it leads but i can assume it has something to do with down force lol.

Looks like Mclaren will be the only team not participating in the new nose design...im interested to see the difference on the track.

Yep, Montreal.   I just got my tickets in the mail last wednesday, so I'm stoked.

I chose Grandstand 12, which is at the apex of the Senna curve.  I thought about getting tickets on at stands 1 & 2 for the top speed fly-bys, but I figure I'll see more passing at 12.

I'm kicking myself that I missed the French GP in '05 when I was IN paris that weekend, so I'm going all out this year.  I've never been to Montreal (the city) before so it should be good.

ah, the first turn sequence, nice!...its a long way to that stand lol.

We were sitting at turn ten (hairpin) and it was insane to see the cars come in full speed, turn and then take off!

Some pics from my angle:

This was along the back road (behind where you will sitting). It is where all the cars have to go in order to get to the track from the trailers. This was the ferrari race that was happening that weekend as well.

I was reading that they moved the grandstands farther back from the track on the hairpin this year.

Your videos are getting me more excited.
