So I went to the Mazda dealer to get my oil change this Tuesday.

I had some time to kill so rather sitting there I went up to the dealer floor.  Lil bro is in the market (kinda) for a small SUV so I thought CX-5 yes?

Well CX-5 is good and everything but there was an MX-5 outside.  GT, white with the hard top roof.  Just recently sold.  I ended up taking the MZ2 for a spin (auto...  they didn't have the manual) but most of my questions were revolving around the MX-5.  I've been in love with that car for a while now and lately I can't shake it from me head.  I know its totally out of my price range atm and not something that I should even be entertaining but I thought 'I'm turning 30 in less than a month! Do I want to wait until I'm pushing 40 before I try on a 2 seater convertible?'

I've spent the last few days trolling Craigslist and the usual suspects for 3rd gen MX-5s.  Apparently you can get some for as low as 14k and up to around 21k - ish.

I'm tempted to call up the bank and seeing how much more I owe them for my 3...  If its similar to what the value of the car is and I can flip it for a MX-5...  Used...  uh oh...

Stupid right?  (someone quick! stop me!)

I had a friend in a similar situation.  Her plan was to get married in a couple of years.  So she decided to trade in her Nissan for a mazdaspeed Miata.  Her rationale was that this will be the only time she can be in a 2 seater convertible; and the next opportunity won't be until the kids grow up, etc.

My thinking is this.  If you can afford it and it doesn't impact your long-term goals (getting married, buying a house, etc), then by all means, GO FOR IT !!   Grin

@dmogx: funny sir...  I wish it was that easy Wink
@Uncle Tony thanks for that.  One voice of reason~!
@Zoomer: lets call it third life crisis?  LoL

Rx8 is out of my price range.  S2K I am not a fan of.  I know they're awesome cars but you know just not doing it for me.

I don't think 3rd gen has speed version only the 2nd gen.  They are beasts but rare.

It'd be nice if my g/f and I get hitched soon.  Hopefully I can get her hooked on driving my car (manual with the new TWM shifter etc etc) but I gotta teach her to drive stick first!

She has a 2009 Hyundai Accent hatch in the base.  It's got more clicks on it + it was a cheaper car to begin with so it'll be less of a hit (depreciation wise) if I trade that in for an MX-5.

I love how so many of the MX-5's are low mileage!

One concern I have right now is I've never driven one before.  Sure I've been to autox and sat in a bunch of them but never drove one.  I fear if I do drive one I might be smitten!  LOL.

Last time I was at Wolfe Langley there were three MX-5's with low mileage & manual transmissions for under $17,000. I was VERY tempted.

What did you think of the CX-5 interior?'

First time through the gears you'll be hooked. The ONLY reason I haven't owned one is that I'm 6'2" and there's not a ton of headroom in those little things.

What I read!   Grin  It's better than driving an MX-5.

PS. I'm sized right for an S2K or an MX-5.   Wink
