Anyone here like Jap food? You should try Yoshukuya on Denman St, downtown. Gotta love their buttercorn steak and chicken curry. For a more expensive taste, I think Tojo is one of the best out there. It's really expensive though... I've only been there once but the taste is still in my mouth until now . But for something that fits my wallet, I like Guu on Thurlow St. Not too expensive, food is great, but good luck waiting for seats during dinner time though, especially weekends.

Nikkyu (I think) on Main and 17th is one my favourites. Affordable and pretty decent food too There's a couple of those "fusion" places in downtown (don't remember names) -- one was on Robson and the other in Yaletown. Food is excellent but hella $$$

Tojo's is probably the best I've had. Guu is good too, but like Absinthe said, the wait to get in sucks during dinner.

One of my favourites is The Eatery on Broadway. Not your traditional sushi (by far) - but it is always a great time!

If you're looking for sushi that's nice and unique and beautiful. Head to Toyotami Sushi. It's on Hastings just past Boundry. Next to a pub. Very nice sushi and tastes great. Unique creations like Sea Scallop surprise. It's fresh scallops in a roll with tobiko and spread ontop is a sweet black sesame sauce.
For family style, gotta recommend Guu, Happa Izakaya is pretty good as well.
All you can eat...if you can afford around $25 / person, head to the Japanese restaurant on the corner of Granville and 41st. It serves all you can eat oysters, abalone, geoduck, beef tataki.....etc..... fantastic!!
And for probably the best deal not all you can eat would be Samurai Sushi next to Oakridge mall. They give you HUGE pieces....the salmon sashimi is seriously at LEAST an inch think and 3 inches long....
Yummy...

My local fav is Fuji Sushi in Burquitlam Centre on Clarke. It is really good food at a great price. The owner is a actually Japanese trained in Japan. Most cheaper places are Korean. Hmm... going there for lunch now.
When I was living in Vancouver we used to go to Tama at Fir and Broadway. Absolutely exquisite food. Service is slow but the wait is worth it. Don't look at the price though.
