um....it is illegal to do this, but I don't think it is bad for the car unless you shift back to D from N when you are still moving, that could be a little harsh on the tranny.

It is really dangerous to do so tho, cuz u lost the control of the speed of they car

I don't think that's what you should be doing...it's too dangerous...

usually I just use the tiptronic and put it in 3rd gear when going downhill...

if your point is to save gas, u can just leave it in the highest gear and let it roll

yeah don't use neutral when going down a hill....gear down to 3rd or something so you use your engine to brake the car.

Not only is it dangerous, it's bad for the engine. The rpm's drop down, and if you have to engage in a hurry, you may be jumping your engine up to running rpm's way too fast.

hahaha i dunno if im still a noob

i used to do that almost all the time b4 with my old car (now traded in for the 3)
-umm it does save gas if u're on a long straight downslope.......dun do it if there are many many curves going downhill tho....

but yeah.. engaging back in D would hurt the transmission alright.........and u'll need to brake harder to stop the car.......czu would be rolling faster and no engine braking as they already mentioned

i just do that when going downhill from SFU tho...

u kno about all of sudden revving it high back?......when not in emergency is to press on the gas rev match it.......thenput back to D.........that way it will not hurt the transmission as much..but still..

my way was to press gas rev match then put back to D (in 4th gear....then take off the overdrive (put it in 3rd gear) to engine brake just b4 the bottom of the hill....

if in emergency then..............that's y i never do that all the time elsewhere....

yes that's illegal... but i still do that all the time...lol but now i hv a manual
plus for me, even in 5th gear, it'll hold at 100 downhill...already good enuf an engine braking...

Technically, its not safe for you to be in neutral while you're car is moving ... theres no way to punch the accelerator fast enough in an emergency situation.

But hey, I do that sometimes just to save gas haha ... like Inno said, only if its straight down though, never on a curvy road
