My friend has an 06 MX-5 Non-Hardtop and just to answer the fitment question a few pages back I am about 6'2" and I have driven the MX-5 comfortably. So size is not an issue Dave.
The car is very nice. Accelerates quickly and handles like it is stuck to the road (until you kick out the back end and drift).
I should point that bodykit out to my buddy. I think he would get it.

The hardtop is nice! I think I'd rather have one of these over the MS3.

Not a clue. But I figure that the price would be in the neighbour of a G35 (ie, way out of range)...

Use the previous gen MS Miata w/ a Turbocharger as a point of reference -- keeping in mind that the current MX5 makes a quoted 170hp.
But for $36k, I'm smelling the interior of a gently used S2k...

Hey Pete are the power hardtops already available? I'd love to see one in a showroom in action if possible.

there were a few allocated to different dealerships based on miata sales but they were since sold...we can't order any as these were the first few built. you can expect to start seeing them in showrooms etc probably January area. Don't ask man, if it were me, all the miatas would have the new hard top!!
these new tops are pretty sweet and look really clean...don't know why anyone would ever purchase an MX-5 with a soft top now! Especially since the hard top only adds about 75 lbs if my memory serves me correctly.

Now is the hard-top an addable accessory or does it have to be ordered with the car initially? Like can you pay to have the hardtop installed on a soft top MX-5?

The two tops are exclusive. You get one or the other.

Tony,
Top Gear Mag just did a review on the Mazda MX-5 hardtop. A few quotes of note:
"no long a softie, it's now, er, well 'ard"
"The new roof isn't actually metal, but is instead a selection of composite materials to keep the weight down" "the new roof is only 18kg heavier than the cloth one" "this marvel of engineering drops into the same hole as the fabric top does." "Park two versions next to each other and you will notice slight differences. (the front deck on the rear deck is 400mm higher; the rear wheelarches are a tad more flared to compensate)" "No fat arse here. Why can't anyone else - other than Mercedes - do this?" "Roof up or down, you cannot sense the extra weight"
