VANCOUVER/CKNW (AM 980) - RCMP are continuing their investigation into this morning's fatal collision in Richmond and the police pursuit that led up the crash.
A 50-year old Richmond man was killed when his Plymouth Voyager mini-van was struck by a speeding Hyundai at the intersection of Cambie and Shell Roads.
Corporal Tom Seaman says at this point they don't know how fast the female driver was going but he admits she was being chased by police.
"The pursuit took less than a minute so at the time of the collision the pursuit obviously ended and our vehicle was quite a distance from the collision location."

Charges have not yet been laid against the driver but Seaman says she is known to police.
The victim's name is being withheld at the request of his family.

Yes, I feel sorry for the other driver and his family. The other driver deserves whatever comes to her.

Knowing the media, they will probably blame the police....
The police shouldn't have pursued etc....

This chase began in Vancouver.
The police might not actually have been chasing the vehicle.  I know for a fact that the chase had been called off from the VPD side and that the RCMP became the primary, while VPD became secondary.

There are many times where the police have stopped pursuing, but the criminal still drives like they are....
as more details roll out...we'll see what's going on.

I hope the police don't get shafted (again) for these kind of pursuit / fatal accidents.  They can't do their jobs properly with both hands tied behind their back .

Condolences to the family of the deceased.  I hope they throw the book at the culprit...

Killing another person while speeding is not the kind of crime where you can get out the next day.

The women or girl who was speeding will not get out of jail and will most likely have to serve time in prison.

you are a little too optimal. I've seen someone killed somone in an accident on one day, the next day he joked about it. Angry

also the female suspect is well known to police...so go figure. Roll Eyes

Why run?? I hate it when people can't own up to their mistakes. Now more innocent people pay for some loser that can't get their life in order.

The sad part is that this isn't the first or last time something like this is going to happen. Our justice system is simply too leniant on those responsible.

Why run?  I hate it when people can't own up to their mistakes. Now more innocent people pay for some loser that can't get their life in order.

The very rule dreamt up by politicians to prevent hi-speed chases and deadly accidents is causing this to happen.  The politicians won't allow the police to carry on any sustained chases.  The culprits know that if they are able to speed away from the police, the cops may not chase.

This is just sad.  So very sad...

Sorry to hear that Jon....
This hasn't been the first time I had a friend who knew the victim of a chase-crash death...remember that pastor that died last year or two years ago.....yeah...

The problem is not the sentences.  Light sentences don't force people to run, heavy sentences are what will cause people to run.  Look at the states, they have the heaviest and stiffest penalties...yet their crime is WAY worse than ours per capita....and the outcomes are a lot more deadlier.......

It's a big social issue, but no one is willing to stick out their neck for a long term solutions.  We have to create a social net that will try to prevent these issues, but of course...that means someone has to pay....and that's the taxpayers.  With exterme capitalism taking power right now, and people swaying towards the "I'd rather have my $100 / year, instead of the $300 Million the govt can have for social programs" attitude...these problems will just get worst.

With the Liberals cutting all the social programs, it's no surprise that property crime has jumped so quickly, as more poor people get tossed into the streets, with really no hope to ever get out of the spiral.  We are the top property crime in North America!!!!...not Canada....NORTH AMERICA!!! WTF???!?!?

It's not a bleeding heart scenario, as I personally have had a few friends go into that spiral.  Decent person, runs into a string of bad luck, somehow gets into crack, and builds up a $100,000 debt.....imagine without friends or family...how could a person even get a job with no fixed address?......

Anyway I digress....big social problem and innocent people are being killed by crack/meth heads.....
But heavier punishment (as suggested by Stephen Harper AKA Bush Jr Jr....) is not going to work.

It was very sad news but hearing it was someones father makes it even more sad.

My friends brother got killed this last fall in a shoot out in surrey, no body can imagine what he had to go through. Even i felt like crying. These unexpected deaths of loved ones by pathetic losers is just unforgivable.
