RX8
« on: August 18, 2006, 01:07:01 PM »

Well I went to the dealership and inquired about the MAZDASPEED 3 and started looking at the 8's.

After a couple dealership and trying to trade in my 3 for the best price I ended up with this. I know how much Signature is hated here but so far so good for me. They gave me the best trade in on my 3 and moved big time on the 8. Wolfe and VIP didn't come near the trade in that Signature did. I pick it up next week. It is an 04 GT with 27000km on it. Pic is from my phone so it isn't great.

Now is there any local RX8 boards?

Oh I will have a sunroof visor for sale from my 3 if anybody is interested. Assuming it wont fit the 8.

Thanks

what type of parts do you need? Wolfe in Langley carries them...some are by special order.  Some online stores are actually really well priced and some are expensive.

Just looking at the cat back exhaust. I test drove one with this system and it sounded awesome.

Do you have any online links?

Not to alarm you guys, but got this off of another forum, so no link to the original story. Take it with the standard issue grain of salt.

Quote
MONTEREY, Calif. -- After suffering a black eye from disclosing that it won't count RX-8 owners' opinions in its internal customer-satisfaction scores, Mazda says it may have to replace the engines in many of its flagship sports cars.
The voluntary recall of all 2004 and 2005 vehicles, and some 2006s, is expected to be announced this week or next. It involves damage to the catalyst resulting from oil leaks in the RX-8's rotary engine.

Any engine that does not pass a vacuum test must be replaced, said Robert Davis, head of product development and quality at Mazda North American Operations.

Engines prone to failing the test are mostly in hot climates and use synthetic oils.

Mazda also will check each RX-8's battery and starter, which tend to fail in cold climates.

"We're going to give these cars the white-glove treatment," Davis said. "We would rather replace the engine than have the dealer crack them open."

Davis would not disclose the projected failure rate of the engines or the cost to replace them.

Mazda has a remanufacturing center in North Carolina that will rebuild faulty engines and return them to service.

The recall comes after a video Webcast by two dealers who attended the July 11-13 National Dealer Advisory Council meetings in Newport Beach, Calif., was leaked on the Internet.

In the video, dealers said problems with the RX-8 were unfairly lowering Mazda customer-satisfaction scores.

Mazda informed the dealers that RX-8 owners would continue to be surveyed, but that the responses would not factor into dealer customer-satisfaction scores.

Mazda has issued service bulletins on such trouble spots as squeaky brakes and engine flooding

I saw 2 silver RX-8 today in Burnaby. 1 in the morning on Lougheed and Boundary with Signature license plate frame. Is that you?

No not me. I am having signature do all the recalls (3 of them). Then it is going to get detail and a power buff at some body shop. I should be able to pick it up tomorrow night but I have a work party to go to. So it might be Friday or sat. I am letting them take there time fixing the things I wanted fixed. So far so good.

If you happen to get a MS catback(in fact, any aftermarket cat back exhaust), let me know. I would like to hear it in person both inside and outside the car.
