Does anyone knows what is the wheel offset for the 17" factory rims?  I wanted to know if +40mm is the lowest it can go without tire rub.

From what I have seen, Mazda OEM wheels are around +50mm offset.

You also have to consider other factors like if you are going to lower the car, how large a rim you wanted to put on (18s?), how wide the rims is and tire.

On a Mazda5? I have no idea. The RX-8 rims are 52.5mm I think, and the 3 rims are 50mm.

You're right, the 3's 17" rims are a +52.5mm offset.

From what I have seen, Mazda OEM wheels are around +50mm offset.

You also have to consider other factors like if you are going to lower the car, how large a rim you wanted to put on (18s?), how wide the rims is and tire.

I am just too lazy to try to put on my 18x7.5 rims to test. If +52.5mm offset is also used on the Mazda5 17"x7 rims, then i think 18x7.5 with +42mm offset shouldn't be a problem.
