This is just a general warning about the Japanese restaurant Yokohama in Steveston, Richmond. My gf and I were going through our entertainment book coupons and thought we'd try this place out. What a mistake that was. We opted for the all-you-can eat sushi menu which honestly looked pretty promising. It was crap. I'll usually eat anything, but this was the first time I had trouble finishing our first order because the food was so bad. The bland rice in the rolls and sushi tasted like cold, soggy, week-old congee. The tempura seemed like it was boiled in grease as opposed to deep-fried. And the overall ratio of rice:seafood was unreasonably high (even for all-you-can-eat). The service was okay, but they didn't let us use the coupon on the all-you-can-eat menu. After paying $40+ to eat styrofoam and greasy yams, I felt reasonably ripped off. Oh well, never going back there again... ? ? ?

While we have some great restaurants in and around Vancouver, there is a fair share of really crappy places. Worst place I've been to is some Vietnamese Pho place that opened near my house. My buddies and I thought we would go try it out and they ran out of pho! WTFS?! And then a week or so later there was a shooting there and a few people died. Oh well, probably laundering money.

Joey Tomato's on Lougheed Highway. My burger was overcooked and my fries were cold and stale. The beer was warm plus they brought us a pitcher of regular Kokanee instead of the Kokanee Gold we ordered. I asked the waitress if she was sure it was Kokanee Gold and she said yes and started to pour the beers anyways. My friend's dry ribs were also burnt. After settling our bill and moving to a larger table in the lounge area, we were forced to evacuate the building because the roof was on fire. The only plus side to the evening was we didn't have to pay for any of the drinks and food we ordered after moving into the lounge. We had more fun playing dice at the hole-in-the-wall Chinese restaurant we went to afterwards.

I agree about Yokohama and their food.
I think Big Lai Palace sucks cuz... a) tables are jam packed together and is kinda dirty b) service is rude at lunch during dim sum (never gone for dinner).
Taisho (sp?? the one in metropolis by TGI Friday). This is one where i have 0.0001% chance of ever going back to. (a) The food is not that great. (b) The last (never will go back) I went there, we noticed an excessive amount of fruit flies (or whatever those tiny lttle flies are) near the back of the restaurant on the wall behind where we were eating (we had a table by the wall). This was a lot even for a sushi place. There were so many that I couldn't even begin to count them! I got semi-flamed on revscene for this comment (hey.. but that's expected at rs) cuz it's indoor.. how can flies get in there? Which is a retarded comment.. all restaurants are indoors.. i wonder how they got in??? retards... anyhow.. ya.. and a friend felt sick after eating their oyster motoyakis on two different occassions.
Golden Train?? The 24hr vietnamese place on Kingsway near Joyce, where the London Drugs and Honolulu is. (a) The food is terrible.. (b) service is ok.. i think i'd get better service if I could communicate in Vietnamese. Waitress "seems" nice enough.. although my gf (who used to like the place before the management change.. i've only been since the management changed) ordered pork on vermicelli.. but got beef instead. The waitress said that they ran out of pork.... but shouldn't she have notified my gf?? suspicious... midway through her meal, she noticed someone else get noodles with pork (the waitiress said the item's name). The waitress realized my gf noticed and told her that beef goes better with vermicelli... wtf??
hmm.. i'm sure there's more hehehe..

Would you really want to go to a restaurant that is named after your tires on your car anyway?
Though it's fast food, the Subway on 96th near 200th in langley is the worst in the world. People there could barely understand English, they put stuff on my sub that I didn't want, 3 times, then tried to charge me more. To top that, my sub fell apart when I picked it up, first time ever. I was disappointed.
Now for real restaurants, The Fox's Reach in Maple Ridge didn't impress me for their food. I got a burger from there, that tasted kind of gross. A friend of mine got a salad that looked nasty and apparently tasted so too, with salad dressing that she told them NOT to bring, but they did of course. All of this after about half an hour of waiting for the food when the place was empty.

Ebei sushi on Granville & 41st (read my post about it in the Sushi Restaurant thread).
Samurai Sushi at Oakridge. Used to love going there for the hooooooooooooouuuuuuuuuuuge nigiri and maki sushi, but when the last few times I went (several years ago), the fish was consistently ... fishy. Gross.
Derrick: which pho place/money-laundering op are you talking about? There are two or three at least in the 41st + vic area.

I half-jokingly suspect this of many of the Vietnamese places that I frequent. Doesn't stop me from going to the decent ones however.

Earls Restaraunt: Port Coquitlam I can't give a full breakdown rating because I cook the food myself but "NEVER" eat there as I wouldn't say it is 100% sanitary. IF I'm cooking your meals than you're fine but i can't give you anymore information.

Timmy's in White Rock is horrible. There's a serious language barrier going on in that place. I told the clerk that I wanted some apple cinnamon tea and she asked if I wanted the tea on a plate. I said no...tea goes in a cup. Then she goes..oh...we don't serve tea here. Finally it got escalated to the ass. supervisor who had to explain what tea was in English.
Real Restaurants
Charlie Don't Surf in White Rock - Tony and I went to this and our waitress was too busy chatting it up with her friends. Two other tables besides ours were waiting up to 20min for a refill on pop. It wasn't until Tony made it so obvious by slurping his remaining ice that she finally would come over. We pretty much got kicked out 10min later lol.
Denny's in Vancouver - were stuck waiting two hours for food. By the time it came mine was the only one that was still hot. Then when we asked for a manager it took us 45min to get him. The table behind us teamed up with us and did a dual complaint for the wait. He ended up paying for both meals.
TGIF in Metrotown - just bad service all around. And the food isn't that great either.

Boston Pizza. Specifically, the No. 3 Road location (near Ackroyd). Went in the afternoon, place was DEAD. We were seated at the closest table to the entrance. I asked what the specials were and the waiter proceeded to tell me all the drink specials. I ordered one, he asked me for ID, a second piece of ID, a third piece of ID. Looked at me, then said he had to go show the ID to his boss. As his manager walked back to us with the beer, I stood up and politely told them I would take my business elsewhere. I'm 24, not 12.
Don't even get me started on the overpriced portions.
