Hey everyone, keep your eyes open for a dark car that has obvious frontal damage (I know it's vague). Pretty tragic story, hope they catch the bastard responsible:?

"A Richmond, B.C., man has appealed for the public's help in finding the driver who struck and killed his wife as she crossed the street on Wednesday morning, and then drove off.

Aki Tajima, 36, was hit as she crossed Number 3 Road on a marked crosswalk in front of Richmond city hall as she went to work.

Aki Tajima was run down as she crossed Number 3 Road in Richmond, B.C., at 7:15 on Thursday morning. She died later in hospital.
(RCMP) Her husband of two years, Jay Han, told reporters at the Richmond RCMP detachment Thursday that he met his wife 10 years ago while they were both studying English in Vancouver.

He said they got married two years ago, and had been planning the honeymoon they'd never had.

Han cried, describing how the person he loved the most slipped away as he held her hand on Wednesday evening in hospital.

RCMP Cpl. Peter Thiessen said investigators are looking for a black import vehicle, and are asking body shops and neighbours to report any cars they see with new damage to the front end."

That's so sad.

I hope the driver has a conscience and turns him/herself in to the police, or is caught.

then u also gotta keep in mind that maybe it was a panick reaction to the accident they wernt thinking straight. that said they should have turned themselves in afterwards. but at this point initial panick does not justify not turning urself in

I would panick too but i wouldnt just run away, i would take the person to the hospital or atleast comfort them till the ambulance gets there.
Running away is the first reaction in this kind of situation but the person should know better than that.

But the problem is...running away shouldn't be the first instinct.  Unless you are drunk or high or something, hitting a person most likely won't get you in trouble.  An accident is an accident....., you'll most likely get a ticket, and if you are at fault, your insurance will go up.  There really won't be any criminal issues.  It's just sad that many people run away because they are going to have to pay more $$$.

There seems to be a general inability for many people to simply take responsibility for their actions. Whether it is money or simply cowardice, it's shocking that if people think they can get away with something, they're going to try. I've known people who have run from an accident scene, switched driver seats, made up ridiculous stories, faked witnesses, claimed the car was stolen all to save their own sorry asses from either the law or having to explain the truth to their parents.

I am still clueless why at 7:30 in the morning, that 98B station must be packed. Someone must of saw the car. If one person can remember one number/letter off the plate, we would of caught the driver.

oh well just like the porsche driver that ran over three guys in downtown got caught a year after the accident...so I hope this driver will eventually get caught...SOB. Angry

Very sad, indeed.  R.I.P

And why is everyone assuming the driver is a male?

People need to learn how to slow the F down at crosswalks.

Is this just a pedestrian crosswalk, or are there street lights as well?

My mom works at the school right by my house, so she walks to work everyday and at the crosswalk that she has to cross, which is controlled with traffic lights. When the little man comes up she crosses (like your supposed to do) so many times ppl have just ran the red light and have almost taken my mom out.

The new pedestrian crosswalk they put at SMH. People need to learn how to press the button, so the lights come on so drivers know you are crossing the road. If it is dark outside noone can see you.

In ending...

People need to learn how to use crosswalks properly.
And
Drivers need to learn how to obey the rules of the road.

This is a very tragic incident, and I hope they find whoever did this and do away with them.

Bong,

You bring out good points.  It's obviously the law for a car to stop at a crosswalk no matter what, but people crossing the streets also need to be aware of their surroundings.  I've seen too many instances of people just walking out into the street, thinking just because they have the right of way, that they own the street and all cars will stop.  It's such a foolish thing to do, since if there's an accident, which are usually unexpected, who loses?  The car or the human body?

I believe that the crossing in is one of the newer ones with the flashing pedestrian lights.....am I correct?

The term "king of the road" for pedestrian does not always work. I hate those who jaywalk or dodges when they are not suppose to PLUS wearing dark clothes....drivers need to see you to react.
