People need to learn how to use crosswalks properly.
And
Drivers need to learn how to obey the rules of the road.

As much as i hate drivers who dont slow down or yield for people on crosswalks, i hate the people more who "expect" car drivers to care for their safety on the road. Pedestrians should stick their head out and put their feet on the road only when the cars start stopping. I have seen many times, people blinding start walking on the road without looking at cars approaching at high speeds.

Bong,

You bring out good points. It's obviously the law for a car to stop at a crosswalk no matter what, but people crossing the streets also need to be aware of their surroundings. I've seen too many instances of people just walking out into the street, thinking just because they have the right of way, that they own the street and all cars will stop. It's such a foolish thing to do, since if there's an accident, which are usually unexpected, who loses? The car or the human body?

I believe that the crossing in is one of the newer ones with the flashing pedestrian lights.....am I correct?

Keiichi is bang on here...  in these cases, it is of little relevance as to who actually has the right of way.  When a car collides with a human body, 10 times out of 10, the human will lose.

Keep your eyes open and pay attention when crossing streets.  We don't call streets the "tiger's mouth" for nothing....

a pun?? hahaha that car hit the woman bang on and she died.

Yes it's the newer crosswalk with flashing lights, since it's outside City Hall.

M Speed: i gave a thought to the comment u've made about ppl at bus stop at 98B at 7:30am. I believe that stop is not the busiest since that is not the richmond exchange stop.

But i think it's absolutely ridiculous that no other information is given about that car too

And i also agree that pedestrians.... they don't even LOOK at the traffic, they put their heads down and comes out of the curb.
This reminds me of an ad by ICBC (u can see those around at skytrain stations). It's the ad that shows a woman at a crosswalk, wearing a white shirt (which blends into the wall), green pants, (also blends into the background wall, holds a red umbrella, which camaflouges to the red mail drop-off box.

and at the bottom the caption says: "Don't assume drivers can see you! Make eye contact with the driver"
or sth like that

too many times have i nearly missed someone who crosses/jwalks without looking onto the street for cars first., I especially hate the ones that appear out of no where from inbetween parked cars Sad

Feel bad for the husband. No justice.

As for whoever mentioned the Porsche SUV hitting 3 pedestrians downtown. That Cayenne was owned by Dan Cloutier. And from what I recall, no one was arrested for the incident.

it is weird that the husband did not make a plea the driver to show up. He even said he doesn't even want to know who is the driver.

The Cayenne case got someone arrested. I read on the newspaper but forgot the details. I didn't know it was Dan Cloutier's car....I know that when MCL has the Carrera GT event, VPD were there finding out how many keys were associated with that Cayenne.

It's sad really, even I've almost hit someone at a crosswalk. It didn't help that they were wearing dark clothing at night. If more people would take responsibilty for their own actions, the gentleman in question probably wouldn't be greiving right now.

that was such a sad inccident. Apparently one of the guys who past away was a fiance of my mom's coworker's sister's friend .. yeah it's a lil distance. but it's sad because they were 3 months away from their wedding when he got killed.
