they can't ding you for the camera.  They would have to prove that you brought it up from down there but if you already have pictures of it on there it proves you didn't just get it.  I would just snap a few pics of some local spots and streets and have them on the camera's memory (if it has that capacity) and the memory card before you head down.

Taxes and duties are in CDN funds.  If you are going down for business purposes and declare that before you enter the states then you will pay their fee in USD.  The letter carrier charges in USD or CDN for their fees.

they don't really care much about camera. Especially when you have something to declare, they won't suspect you.

When you think of it, Point Roberts is so dead that other then go down to pick up stuffs....who would want to go there for nothing.

just received an email from the letter carrier.  You now have to pick up the item within two weeks of its arrival - additional storage charge of $3/week will apply thereafter.

If you want to bring your camera (or any other "loose" electronics like an iPad, iPhone, laptop, etc.) across the border and back again without hassle, stop at the Canadian side on the way down, take the device in, and ask for a "Green card" or a "Y38" form for it.  It's a little green card the size of two business cards, that you fill out a description of the item, it's serial number, and show it to the customs agent.  He fills out something on the other side, stamps it, and then you fold it and keep it in your wallet.  If there's ever any question (i've been asked, but I carry a rather large camera bag with me when I travel) you can just show the card to prove that you took the item with you when you left.

Officially you're supposed to get a new one every time you leave Canada with the items, but in practise it's redundant and just adds to their workload.  I only get a new one if I buy a new lens or change camera bodies, otherwise I just use the same one over and over again.  It lives in my camera bag.  I have a second one for my laptop, that lives in my laptop bag, etc.
