1st, recently my friend said one night about 3 weeks ago after he had a dinner with his friend (I did't hear which city he was in), he drove his car away from the parking lot. Very soon, his car stopped and became undrivable. Then he stepped out the car and saw something like transmission part was leaking or broken because there was oil along the road. Then, he was busy calling the towling truck. At the same time, there was a group of ppl, ~3-4, walking toward him and asking about direction to somewhere. My friend was alone and the situation was kind of a mess. Finally, my friend realized he lost his wallet just after the group of ppl left. Just few days later, the other friend heard the same situation happened to another woman, and the police has started noticing this kind of crime.
2nd, I just saw a post from a forum in Vancouver, about a girl and her mom walking indoor in Metrotown near Superstore. Suddenly she was pushed by someone and her head hit to the glass window. Then her mom was punched by the same man, but quickly the man ran away. She mentioned at the moment there were still many ppl in the area. Later her mom had to see the doctor to see if she's ok coz the punch was kind of hurt. Well, why would ppl do something like that?
So, just be careful at anytime, at any place.

^ news to me. I know there had been incident that people left a piece of paper on the windshield blocking the view. So driver step out to remove the paper and get robbed.
Well it is the holiday seasons, people tends to carry a little more cash on them as well as gifts in the car.
Don't let the holiday shopping madness over-shadow your awareness of theft.

It's a good thing I don't carry cash. It's my credit cards that I worry about. It seems to me that crooks come up with new twists on things like this every year.

It's starting to both disturb and anger me, how many "stupid" violent crimes have happened lately. Dumb things like people getting golf clubs to the head, or getting beat on for seemingly no reason. Like, why would two random strangers beat a guy nearly to death and leave him there to bleed? Don't tell me an insult or something is validation for that (not that an insult was given). I'm sorta scratching my head at the situation, and angry about it at the same time. I find myself asking, "What's going on??"

there's an old Asian curse that goes "May you live in interesting times". It seems to me that we are living in interesting times. Unfortunately, its the violence that's proving to be interesting, albeit disturbing.

Where there's a will there's a way. As civilians find new ways to protect themselves, the criminals just get more creative. Be careful out there guys.

I actually have a story NO BS!!!!! I was at a friends place of business and its located in Surrey along the Scottroad area. And went to check on my car to make sure my lights were off. Next thing you know a guy came up to me and asked for directions on how to get on to Scottroad. And I didn't clue it at first but when I did it was too late 3 other buddies joined in and short story the lead guy asked for my keys and luckily for me I left my wallet and keys with my friend inside! so the 4 knuckle heads didnt know what to do!? they kept talking amongst themselves and i was still in a neck hold from one of the guys who was taller than me, was like 5'11 or so! and luckily my buddy came out with some of his co-workers and saved the day! He was like hey RJ who are ur friends!? And I was like NO NO not friends some guys asking for directions maybe you guys can help em out! Neck hold released and the 4 guys fled away!!!! SCURRY TO SAY THE LEAST! my car could have been jacked or worse I probably wouldn't be here today! .........

Yeah, that sorta thing would definitely shake me up. But at the very least, that was a crime with some sort of purpose.. your money and your car. I keep seeing things where either the violence isn't measured to the situation (golf club to the head??) or there is no reason for it at all.. like a bunch of punks who just need someone to beat up. It's.. worrisome.
But at the same time, I'm not sure if I want to stop acting the way I do to "protect" myself more. If my instincts say it's okay, I'll still offer up directions to dudes. I don't wanna stop being me just to try and protect myself from some potential threat. Besides, I'm still young enough and stupid enough to think I have a decent set of instincts and enough rage to cause a little damage if the shit goes down.
