hmmm lotto system in best buy?  from the few people who have lined up in multiple BB lansdowne lineups, i've yet to hear anything about a lotto system there..

too bad tim is under fire by the management, he did not make the 'best' of decisions, but his decision in the end was somewhat understandable still.  but brian just made it 100x worse, and then tries to shift the blame?
some of the things brian said about the first 25 liner uppers was very unjust imo, like how we were threatening their employees (ONE guy was..  and he was able to buy one in the end.. go figure), they gave us straps to 'avoid' calling the police?  He should have just called the police rather than giving people false hope

Brian and Jennifer were totally unprofessional and incompetent at managing a store. Tim was just doing what he was told by Brian and Jennifer.

Writing a professional letter of complaint works wonders. But if that doesn't work, just goto the local paper or news station and make a huge stink out of it. Be specific who screwed up, when, and where so that the media can put out some seriously bad publicity. Say you got hypothermia and frost bite standing in line or that needy orphans were counting on these as Christmas presents.

Regardless of whether it is true or not, or ethical, TRU will make the effort to avoid this kind of PR disaster and will try to make peace somehow. Who knows, maybe they'll give you guys a couple of Wiis away to keep you quiet. At the least, Brian will get reprimanded and possibly demoted to warehouse bitch. Revenge is sweet!? ? Evil

Seriously, since Mr. Ruseller can't stand interactions with customers, maybe retail is not his career.

Hopefully when you guys report it's against the other managers and not Tim; imho- i believe Tim did his best, as he called other branches to see if they had lines (which they did) and did his best to difuse any controversy. Yes our policy or something was no lining up before midnight but if another on-duty Manager at our branch allowed it than i don't see whats wrong with it. Nevertheless, i dont see why they (Directors) are blaming him as he did his best and at least tried to keep people happy~

Liability.

Invariably Toys 'R Us was trying to protect itself from potential liability. However, I find it utterly astonishing that a corporation the size of Toys 'R Us lacks a definitive corporate policy to deal with limited availability items.

My displeasure with the ordeal has little to do with whether or not I got a Wii or not. However, for the record, I did get a Wii. In spite of that fact, I feel the need to voice my concerns.

Tim: Clearly newer to his position, he was too timid to assert what he believed was the correct direction.

As a result, the more forceful Jennifer attempted to diffuse the situation but instead, simply deferred it.

Meanwhile, Assistant Director Brian, the title-driven self-perceived "Big Kahuna", was exemplifying the fault of vertical management: The higher-ups rarely know what's actually going on. Regardless, through constant phone communication, Brian too, agreed to the 25/20 raffle terms.

Fast forward to 6am. A self-assured crowd of raffle-candidates huddled around the Toys 'R Us entry anxiously anticipating the arrival of the "Big Kahuna". For the crowd, an eternity seemingly passed as unsuspecting Wii-hunters trickled into the crowd. Then, he emerged, flanked by two subordinates carefully chosen to remove any doubt as to who was the "Big Kahuna". Then he spoke. Introducing himself as "Assistant Director", Brian emphasized Director with such panache, he could easily be confused with one of the ego-driven career-mongers on The Apprentice.

With but a few firm words, Brian had changed the game plan yet again, as if he was oblivious to the negotiations of the night previous. Further, Brian accused the raffle-holders of "bullying" the timid Tim and domineering Jen duo.

Hardly.

The group was more concerned with how Toys 'R Us was going to recognize the unofficial list. Unfortunately, employees were more focused on "liability". Misguided, as the resulting tension amongst Toys 'R Us staff, raffle-holders, and Wii-hunters far outweighed the potential liability of an excited but organized group of die-hard campers.

I confronted Brian about the lack of a definitive direction from the get-go to which I received a bewildered look I could liken to OJ being asked whether he prefers fillet knives or cheavers.

Inevitably, a $10 gift card will not suffice for poor planning on the part of Toys 'R Us management. Perhaps working in a large corporation has made me take things for granted, but shame on you Toys 'R Us for lacking corporate policy. This isn't Fast Eddie's corner toystore. Plan ahead & make sure everyone damn well knows it.

Yep, I picked it up for Don and the manager didn't even want to make eye contact with me.

Ha HA. Good luck.
You have to show up when the shipment does.
Thursdays seem to be a good day - around 2PM or so.
Got mine at Costco in Kelowna. Total fluke.
