This is why I'm glad to live further inland. Makes running for the hills in case of a tsunami that much easier.

They say 72 hours of personal survival needs. I dont agree, I think honestly you will need at least 10 days of personal survival supplies.
Nick, make sure you have EQ on your home insurance eh.

Yeah, i doubt that we will get rescued in less than a week. The nearest military base is in the next province. The airport is sure to go down as it is also out in the sea. Water will be 1 resource that we will not have to worry about a lot since the rivers are flowing past almost every community. The main thing to keep stocked up is food, candles and gasoline. I mean, if you need to drive out to a different area, i doubt petrol stations will be pumping gas.

yeah, definitely something to keep in mind. Agree with the 10 days of personal survival supplies. You could theoritically have 72 hours of supplies and stretch it for 10 days. It would be tight but for each person it's different as each person requires different calorie intakes. Power bars and just water is the most important to have in your kit...along with your usual first aid kit and what not. Worst thing you can have are carbonated beverages and sweetened juices...those will dehydrate you further. I prepared this huge trauma kit and kept it in my car but ended up using it when I attended a bad car accident. Oh well...served it's purpose though.

Uh, Army base maybe. Better off without them. Navy base in Esquimalt. Air Force in Comox. There are about half a dozen Reserve units based in the lower mainland. And a couple 24/7 Staffed Coast Guard bases to boot. Alot can be organized when "IT" comes.

yep help will come...help goes to the area in the most need first. Much like in the ER...the worst hurt gets in first. Then help trickles out. No doubt, emergency help is very well organized.

I like to think of it this way.....resources will be stretched and strapped. Dont depend on anyone, just depend on yourself. Be prepared as best you can I spose is the best words.
Nick, I was thinking...what about a new thread. Survivial / ermergency kit....something along those lines. With your input (and a few others) we could put together a decent preparedness kit.
Sorry I'm thread jacking...
