The 2008 Mazda 6 will be powered by Ford?s new 250-horsepower 3.5-liter ?Cyclone? engine. Other engine offerings may include a 2.5-liter inline-4 powerplant.

A hybrid model will eventually become available, using the same 2.5-liter hybrid engine as the American 2008 Ford Fusion. All three body styles, a sedan, hatchback and wagon, will be offered, as well as a Mazdaspeed for the 2009

3.5 is the new 3.0.
I hope this new 3.5 can save Ford. The 3.5L's by Toyota and Nissan are on the Ward's top 10.

not digging the new look. But then again until true press release photo, there is still time/room for improvement.

well the V6's based on a ford duratec design
our mzr2.3's (for 3 and 6's) are mazda made with assists from ford so don't worry about it lol
besides, mazda don't even have any v6 engines in Japan so that 2.5L will be an improvement from our 2.3L and it's 100% sure that there's still gonna be a 4 banger
while toyota/honda's 3.5L are on honda's top10
mazda's mzr2.3L disi turbo is up there too, 2 years in a row, first the speed6, now the speed3

Ford may have assisted in some way for our 2.3 motors but still its a mainly Japan based motor.

ya thats what I am saying, I would get the 2.3 rather than the 3.0
or 2.5 rather than the 3.5
although the jdm versions got different specs and higher compression I think
there's people who look at the 2.3L on 6's and still call it a ford
wow tards

True.....I'm just concerned about an import with a domestic motor. We dont need to discuss all the probs with a domestic, cause we all know that they pretty much suck.

I was listening to the Mazda Canada President the other day when he stopped by to chat and sounds like future Mazda 3's will have the 2.5 4cyl also!!

Another spy shot of the new 6. Not really liking the shape of the headlights.

250hp is plenty in the mazda6's price range - the current gen TSX + IS + Jetta are only at ~200hp.

A 2.5L 4 cylinder seems huge. At that size.. might as well make it a small v6.

An engine upgrade is also expected for the top Mazda 6, with the sedan moving to Ford's 3.5-liter V6 mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. This engine debuted in the 2007 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX crossovers, as well as the Lincoln MKZ sedan, a car which shares the Mazda 6's CD3 platform. The V6 generates 250 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque.

If this Mazda 6 can retain the driving dynamics of the current model while adding some much-needed size and power, it could give the Honda Accord and Toyota Camry a real run for their money.

I think it will look good. The proportions don't seem bad. Never judge a car's design when it's still in camo!
