I gotta vent...

I use the "quick reply" quite often so I don't have the smilies "quick links" pop up and I've noticed that the oldskool code I use isn't parsing the smilies.  Example...

:p  usually brings up the tongue >   ... but you need a capital P for this one
:O usually has the "surprised" look > ... but this one is a SMALL o
:? is often used for ... but on here, it's 3 ? which are used.

:rolleyes: (uBB code) for
:evil: for 

That's all, just had to vent my frustration with SMF.  :p

JK! I am also used to using a different style of smilies so often times I have replies that are > and make little to no sense. I'm not sure whether it's something that can be altered, perhaps Hidz can chime in.

the codes can be altered.  what do you guys think is the easiest way to put smilies up?  would this example be simple enough:  :frustration: <-----that would show the PO'd icon or :wink: which would show the wink icon

oops...nevermind....diddle suggested that in his post.

so yeah diddle, that is easier to use than to have to guess the correct type of character to input.  Anyone else feel that way?

Of course there's a solution for this.

Either:
- Change the current code to the ones you suggested.  But then such smileys in existing posts will be gone.
- Upload the same images with different filename and different code mentioned above.
- Get used to it j/k

lol...it'd be a bit of a nightmare with the older posts.  heh....if we do option 2...2 codes for the smileys?

I'm playing around with a test installation of the forums to test out the "user finder" script, I'll take a look at the smilies thing.  I know some forums allow for multiple :codes: per smilie instead of having to change existing ones or adding duplicates.  Will report back.
