It finally arrived Smiley. I didnt really wait for to long, just 5 days.

The car is Galaxy Gray Mica GS/SP MT. 16" Wheels & Moonroof. Looks sweet.

As an added bonus we also got Wheel Locks for which we didnt even bargain, nor even asked for it. It was just there, together with the car, waiting for us Smiley

We were thinking a long time whether we should go for an extended warranty or not, and at the end we decided to get one for the piece of mind.

What I am still undecided about yet, and would like to ask for advice, is, they are offering the Paint Seal for $295 (plus taxes i am sure) with lifetime warranty. What that means is, if the car's paint starts to fade, they will I guess fix/renew the paint seal. Periodic checks whether everything is ok will be done like every 2 years.

Now I am still not sure what is the best way to go:
1. This dealer paint seal offer with lifetime warranty for ~ $300
2. Go the some other place that can maybe offer even clay bar plus paint seal, I hope cheaper than the dealer.
3. Buy a paint seal product and do it myself (If this is at all possible).
4. Just do regular waxing with good quality car wax (which I think costs around ~30 bucks in Canadian Tire)

haha when I was negotiating I asked if I could have just regular wheel nuts instead of the locking set since I figure they're gonna be a different weight than the other 4 - you know what they said? Smiley

"You can opt not to have the wheel locks but the 45 dollar charge will still be there"

So.. I got "free" wheel locks Smiley

Alexist,
Welcome to the forum.
Do not buy any paint sealants, windows etchings, undercoatings, rust proofings or anything like that.
Long time ago I used to work on a contract for Chrysler Jeep dealers in Winnipeg installing their network and I made friends with some Winnipeg Jets players and more importantly some detailing shop guys. The paint sealant package is just a simple cleaner wax applied with an electric buffer and a top coat of hand applied "sealant" to  mostly hide the swirlmarks if the person operating the buffer doesn't do it properly.
It is a total ripoff. It doesn't do anything on a brand new vehicle. Granted, some really ugly looking old vehicles turn out looking like new after that process, but it needs to be an old, old paint (or a GM water-based one) to fade badly enough to benefit from such a job.
You car will not fade. Just wash it often and wax it sometimes and you'll be just fine. I personally really like the Quick Detailer spray from Maguires... this thing is amazing and it works wonders between full detail sessions.

Your windows etching is useless too and so is the undercoating/rust protection. It only works if applied meticoulously and in the most professional and time-consuming manner. It is possible for it to have a beneficial effect on a vehicle, but no delaer will spend the time necessary to do it right, like drill holes in door sills etc. Plus the effort is really worth it only if you live in a truly canadian province, where winter lasts half a year and you'r driving on a mixture of ice and salt for half of the life of your vehicle Grin

Never, ever buy any of these things. They're pure profit for the dealer and of no benefit to you.

Thanks Kris, a very good explanation.

This may need be in another section of the forum, but since we are on the row in here Smiley ... how often would you recommend a full detailing session .. and what does full detailing session usually include or what do I ask for when having one (clay bar, wax, other ... ) ?

I may seem to be a "want to know it all" guy, but its just that the car looks so cool now, and I want to keep it in that shape Smiley

Thanks

If you have questions about detailing, please post/look in the Car Care section. Our local experts can help you there. Grin

But to answer your question on how often you should do a full detailing session, it really depends. If you have a garage, or park underground often, then you really do not need to do a full detail as often compared to somebody who parks outside mostly or even worse under a tree, etc.

I like to get my car detailed/detail my car once before winter sets in with something that will last and help protect my paint and once after winter so it's nice and shiny for the summer. Grin

Oh, and btw I'm not really an expert on detailng, and I don't even play one on TV (however I stayed at Best Western once) so I agree with Derrick - you gonna get a lot of valuable advice if you post your concerns in the proper section Smiley.
