So, Padre's looking at a new car...

And guess what caught his attention? - A new 2006 Mazdaspeed6 with only 25km... Well now it's 50 or so, after his test drive.

The price they're offering is about $33k, and he was wondering if that was a fair deal...

Some things he's noticed about the car was the on/off clutch, I've read on m6f that this can be fixed, but is it a TSB?
As well as how loud it is... He likes the sound it makes, but worries about how the boss-lady will handle the spooling and engine...

He just needs to know if this is a sweet deal...  The main attraction to this car is the fact that it's made in Japan, compared to the other 6's.

I know that the MS6 is an awesome car, and at $33,000 its a killer deal (its only $1k more then the MS3, but its has AWD and a few other nice features - AWD itself is worth way over $1k)

The effective black book price of this vehicle in brand new shape is between $22,800.00 and $23,900.00. Used car managers never admit the reality of depreciation, especially to its customers.

Look at the production date on that thing. It might have been produced in the early 2005. This effectively renders the car two years old. Since this vehicle appears to be an old stock, it is not hard to knock 20% off its sticker price. That said, I would have advised Padre to aim at purchasing this vehicle at $27,000. That is much more than what the car is actually worth. Too late for Padre. I think he got ripped off.

For that class of car, there are definitely better options out there. Yes without AWD, but the MS6 AWD system really isn't that great.

A sporty larger sedan is a wide market and there are lots of options out there.

Name the other options that price out at $33k. ^

Having driven an MS6, albeit slightly modded, I was very impressed by the car. It has the same visceral power that the MS3 has. The interior is very nice and the feature content is above the Legacy GT which IMO is the only car that competes with the MS6 directly. Other options:

G35 sedan - Nice car but costs a several thousand more.
3 series - You would likely have to get a base model 325i to get close to the purchase price you are looking at. IMO, not worth it.
A4 - Nice car as well, but I don't believe the 2.0T is available with Quattro
TSX - Slower, nicer interior, way too common.

The only concern I would have with the MS6 is depreciation.

After I driven a stock MS6, not too impressive. AWD is weak. Car feels heavy. Turbo max out at 5K. Last but not least is the 6 is dated with looks.

But for 33K, there isn't another car that with the amount of power and features. But bear in mind this is an 06 and 08 is just around the corner.

Despite the fact that it is a new car (no previous owners), the second it goes off the lot, it is pretty much a two year old car with two years of depreciation.  If your Dad is planning on selling the car sometime in the future, the "built-in" depreciation should be factored into the final price.
